A little bit about us...
Darren Boyd: Owner/Breeder
Darren has worked at two central Florida zoos, as well as well as graduating from Central Florida Community College after completing his studies in zoological animal sciences. He has been working with reptiles for over 20 years and has experience with many exotic animals, from Patas monkeys to Jaguars. Still, his passion remains with herpetoculture. When he's not up to his teeth in turtles, Darren spends his time songwriting, recording and touring as the lead guitarist for Ottawa-based hard rock band Black Ju-Ju. Darren is also a writer, who obviously specializes in articles about animal care. He has had many articles published in high-profile magazines such as REPTILES and PET PRODUCT NEWS. You can read more about his music and writing careers here.

An Overview
November 2005

WHAT IS THE REPTILE RAINFOREST?
The Reptile Rainforest is an educational reptile breeding business based in Kemptville, Ontario.
The owner, Darren Boyd, is a professionally trained zookeeper whose passion for all animals
has helped the business grow into one of Canada's most respected herpetocultural enterprises.
The Reptile Rainforest has been operating since 1995.
We are diverse in the products and services we provide to the herpetocultural community, schools as well as the general public.
The offspring produced by The Reptile Rainforest has been included in the collections of several renowned zoological facilities, as well as to the everyday reptile pet owner. Our educational programs and live animal presentations have provided a close-up look at many reptiles and amphibians to many teachers and school children, church groups, scout troups and children at birthday parties.
We are currently producing over 700 baby reptiles in captivity each year, and are in the midst of a major expansion.
Our goal is to double production by the end of 2008.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
The Reptile Rainforest offers unique and enlightening live animal presentations, delivered with enthusiasm by a professionally trained zookeeper and educator. Our shows include content which meets programming standards of the Ontario School Curriculum, and are formatted to fit our clients. time requirements and topics of interest.
As an added bonus, teachers who book a program receive a free curriculum-based lesson plan tailored for their grade level, to be used as a post-visit activity. We are the original Ottawa area reptile roadshow, and have been in business many years longer than any of our local competition.

FAIRS/EXHIBITS/BIRTHDAY PARTIES
We participate in various fairs and exhibits on a regular basis in order to promote a healthy
respect for all reptiles. Displays usually include set-up terrariums, information sheets, and
plenty of hands-on interaction between the animals and members of the general public.
Fair displays work best when live reptile shows are scheduled throughout the duration of the
event. Shows last approximately 20 minutes each, with different animals being profiled at
each show. Many guests tend to come back again and again, to see what new surprises will
turn up!
Here is a list of fairs and exhibits we regularly attend:
Quarterly
Toronto Reptile Breeders Expo
Yearly
Gloucester Fair
Navan Fair
Ottawa Super Exhibition (PetFest)
National Capital Wildlife Festival
National Forest Week
CFB Petawawa New Year's Family Fun Day
